Firefox on my Mac updated today automatically, and I noticed all my bookmarks are gone. The bookmarks toolbar is there, all of the folders are there, but they are empty. I went to bookmarks - restore and they did not appear after restoring the backup from a month ago. These bookmarks marked several websites I'd collected through years of study. Could someone please help me recover these?

Until the experts show-up .... Bookmarks are in places.sqlite (mine shows 5 MB) (favicons.sqlite), and IF you can tell its Size is much Reduced and you have No Backups of any form, I'm not sure How you recover.

For the future.... I make Profile Backups ea 2-4 days with Hekasoft Backup-Restore App; I routinely (manually) copy the entire Profile to an external drive ea 4=7 days; I routinely Export HTML backups to an external drive for emergency Import. I Image (Macrium) my entire Drive ea 2-4 days ..... Do any of that & you'll be safer for this next Uh-Oh event.
