3.6.3 crashes all the time - what can I do?

Fx 3.6.3 crashes all the time - it is worst on Facebook, but the problem occurs on many other sites too. After it has crashed once, it won't even load the Google search homepage (neither the Fx start page, nor the basic Google one). I have to close the browser, and then re-start it. It will work OK for a short while, and then crash again.

When it crashes, it tells me that I need to check that I am not working in ‘Work Offline’ mode. The Firefox Crash Reporter DOES NOT appear.

This problem started when I updated to Fx 3.6. I have not added any new Add-ons since I updated to Fx 3.6. I am running Fx 3.6.3 on a machine whose OS is Vista. I am NOT working in ‘Work Offline’ mode. I have created an entirely new Profile for Firefox. I have tried disabling all of my add-ons. I have Java Runtime Environment 6.0.20. It crashes with the Java Console enabled, and it crashes with the Java Console disabled. I have the latest version of Flash (10.1.53.64)

What else can I try? Because this problem is starting to *really* annoy me.

it can't find pages or websites of commonly known and valid URLs; sometimes even its own Firefox main page or google.com main search page. I also get the make I typed it correctly or that I didn't check the "work offline" button. I have never clicked the "work offline", yet if I go "file" tab the work offline is checked. But even then it sometimes can find sites or it times out because it takes too long. The browser on my cell phone is sometimes faster with loading. Is there something with Windows Firewall or the AVG free Version 9 that is causing issues???
