In Firefox4, clicking on a link in Gmail - for example, will cause the "Firefox prevented this page from redirecting to another page" strip to appear. Clicking Allow permits a one time redirect, but it does not remember the permission, even for the same link/email. As email has this a lot, it is essentially making Firefox4 not usable for me.

Did not occur in previous versions of FF. No redirect message happens when launching external links from Facebook, Twitter etc. Launching links from Gmail works in newest Chrome fine. Do not think it is a Gmail issue.

Have checked for FF4 settings that may be relevant and nothing apparent to modify. Thoughts?

See:

The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

Thanks Cor-el. That seems to have worked. :) Was thinking that it was a security option to selectively allow so some sites and not others so they don't hijack redirect. Cool stuff. :)

Cor-el, When I uncheck the box you reference in your post Firefox4 will not redirect at all. When I check it then I have to click allow to continue. There should be a way to have FF4 remember my choice. Maybe an exception list, like they have for so many other things.

If that box is unchecked then Firefox shouldn't stop redirection.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

That was the first thing I did when I downloaded FF4. It does the same thing either way. I won't say that it never redirects with the box unchecked, but I have a lot of sites that I visit that don't work unless I have the box checked, and then as I stated before I have to click allow before I can go on.

As I stated on another question, I like the fact that it stops automatic redirection. I just wish there was an exception list like they have for so many other things.

I installed NoRedirects. It comes with no indication of how to set up rules,. I have posted a request asking for directions on the support page, but I won't hold my breath, I saw a post from Aug. 2009 asking for the same thing and there was no response to it. Basically NoRedirects is kind of like a puzzle in a box with no picture on the box and nothing on the puzzle pieces. It works great if that is your thing, if not it is useless.
