I have windows XP on my computer. To access certain sites i am getting a message pop saying i need the latest version of windows, which i download and install... or so i thought. Everything appears to go as it should and i get no error messages or signs that something has gone wrong. Yet when i then re-visit these sites (i.e Deviant art) it is still stating i do not have the latest version of firefox. I contacted the deviant art website who confirmed that my browser is showing as Firefox 3.5.3.

Your UserAgent string in Firefox is messed up by another program that you installed.

type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
Filter = general.useragent.
Right-click the preferences that are bold, one line at a time, and select Reset.
Then restart Firefox
