I am running a Windows 7 64 bit laptop. Started PC, opened firefox and top sites was unresponsive straight away. The history is ok and the actual browser works no problems. I have started firefox with plug-ins disabled, restarted browser still top sites was unresponsive. Disabled all extensions, restarted with no response. restarted with all plug-ins and extensions enabled and edited the top sites, even that is unresponsive. I have even re-installed the latest adobe flash player with no response from top sites.

I don't understand by by what you mean with "Top Sites", because it isn't a native feature in Firefox. Try to take a screenshot using the Windows 7 "Snipping Tool" of what you mean.
