after downloading the files to update my adobe flash player, I get the "DOWNLOADS" window pop up as it usually does. So I go to "double-click" on it to install the latest update, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS!!!! No other window popping up to ask my permission or no other window asking me to "RUN". I tried uninstalling and installing again-8 times. Right now I have no idea what Im supposed to do, as everytime I've needed to download before its downloaded AND allowed me to double click in order to install new/latest updates. so I dont have a clue why not now. I have NOT changed any settings from last time either

im using windows vista

Have you restarted your computer between tries? If not, it could be that a proces is 'stuck' in the background. If you're tech-savvy, try poking around in Windows task manager. If you don't feel confident doing that, restart your computer and try installing again.

So I go to "double-click" on it to install the latest update,

Right-click that file in the downloads window and select Open Containing Folder. Then double-click that file to start the installation.

Hi, I had the same problem. I tried everything, r click admin, check firewall, turn off a/v, trash file, redownload file several times, and nothing worked.

Then I went to youtube and clicked on any video and youtube sees there is no flash and then prompts to download adobe flash, hit ok, and it installed perfectly (latest version) and video works fine.

I sure hope this helps people with this problem.

I do wonder if it's related to vista. I've never had problems updating flash before.

Take care!

Hi Firefox_Girl!

If I understand properly, you have a working adobe flash, and can view videos, and you downloaded the latest adobe flash to your computer, and that file will not run.

The only way youtube will prompt for flash is if you do not have it in your add-ons.

So you would have to use add/remove to uninstall the old flash, and then go to youtube and let youtube install the latest. (Can use adobe flash uninstaller as well.)

!!!!!BUT!!!!! ...if it does not install, then you won't have any flash installed, and wouldn't be able to watch any videos until figure out what is wrong with flash not installing.

I don't know why I had to go thru youtube to get flash update installed, but I did. I did notice when it was updating/installing, I think the program name it was using, was something like plugin update installer.

I don't like having had to update that way, but I'm glad it worked.

Take care,

The adobe flash forums now have threads on this problem and a solution by using the offline installer. Here is the thread:
