everything I type goes into location bar
at the moment, literally everything I type goes into the location bar first, even if the cursor is visible somewhere else. For example if I try to type a facebook message, it goes into the location box first. It only started doing this recently

The OP is on Linux as you can see in the system details, so malware is highly unlikely in this case and an extension is a more likely cause.

hello zicodani, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

Start Firefox in Safe Mode, if the problem stops, the cause can be an addon
Maybe the problem can be a Malware:

Just for the record, it seems it was the Mint search enhancer that was causing the problem. Many thanks for the help
