Background I wanted to give Thunderbird a shot because I really, really got tired of Outlook and their shenanigans. About 2 months ago, I tried it a first time and had an issue that prevented me from sending emails from my Hotmail email accounts. I gave up after a week of troubleshooting.

Outlook has come up with more bugs and shenanigans, so I tried again, convinced that there had to be a solution. And I found one. If anyone is interested, I was getting the error "Login to server outlook.office365.com with username <...> failed", and the way I fixed it was by replacing "hotmail.com" with "outlook.com" in the server settings. However, not all is fixed yet.

Current problem I noticed that the messages in my Outlook mail (other than the inbox) are not syncing properly. When I start TB, it appears to sync folders because I have seen new emails in subfolders already. However, if new emails come in while TB is open, it only syncs them if they are in my inbox.

I have looked around already and found that when I right-click that email account and I choose "Subscribe...", it presents me with an empty list and I can't see or enable/disable any folder subscriptions (refresh does nothing). This is strange because of 2 reasons: 1. All my subfolders are there, and they seem to sync when I start up TB. But even if I immediately open the subscribe window, the list is empty. 2. I have a total of 4 email accounts configured, 2 Outlook and 2 Gmail. All except for 1 Outlook account show me the list of folders in the subscribe window, so that made me think it was something in my Outlook account settings. However, nothing I can find there seems to be helpful.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this? I'd rather not close and re-open my TB app each time I want to check for new messages. I really want to give TB an honest chance but it's not making it easy for me to like it right now.

Also, the security button mentioned in this article is not present on the compose toolbar, or anywhere for that matter https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/openpgp-thunderbird-howto-and-faq#w_how-do-i-send-an-encrypted-or-digitally-signed-email

Windows 11.

Any idea how to fix this?

Many messages I receive do not wrap in either the message pane, or when opening the full message viewer (into it's own tab). See the images attached.

I've tried the following approaches (very old thread though): https://superuser.com/questions/702484/can-thunderbird-wrap-long-lines-of-received-html-mails

i.e. creating a 'chrome' folder under my profile, and a userContent.css file under that, trying several of the suggestions for content of that file. None seem to make any difference.

The example message pics here are sent from gmail.

I took an Apple macOS update last night and now my messages are showing in double spacing where they were much more compact and only single spaced before the update. It's not a deal-breaker but I would like to know how to reset the message pane back to single spacing as it was before. I tried looking up a solution on the web but different find anything easily. I am a monthly contributor.

Hi. I renamed a folder and stupidly used a special character (I think that's what caused the problem). The folder is now empty. Seeing an old reply on the forum, I looked in the file list and see that the data seems to still be there but I don't know how to get it back. I've added an image of the directory. It was called .HOLD and I changed it to .Check Here -> HOLD. I changed it back to .HOLD to see if that would help but it didn't. I closed and restarted Thunderbird and that didn't help either.

Hallo alle, seit heute Früh können wir keine Email mehr empfangen. Kurz vor acht kam die letzte und kurze Zeit später kam keine mehr an. Dies sollte eigentlich so sein, da wir aus unserem Buchungsprogramm immer eine Kopie bekommen.

Auch jetzt später im Selbstversuch kommen keine Mails an. Versenden ist problemlos möglich, jedoch können diese dann nicht im Ordner Gesendet kopiert werden.

Wir haben zwei Mailkonten. Einmal über 1blu und einmal Jimdo und natürlich in dieser Zeit keine veränderungen vorgenommen.

Vielleicht kann jemand helfen was das Problem sein könnte.

I have 2 email accounts, both IMAP with comcast.net addresses. One account works fine, I'm able to subscribe to all folders. But when I try to subscribe for the other account, the "Select the folders to subscribe to:" list is blank. I've clicked Refresh but the Folder List but is still blank. What could be causing this? I'm considering deleting the account and adding it back, but I would lose some messages if I did that. It is set up with the imap.cpmcast.net server and the settings are just like the other account that works.

Hello & HNN. I run the same version of Thunderbird 128.6.0esr (64 bits) on 2 machines with the same Windows 11 Pro version 22H2. I configured both machines the same way (e.g. same DNS 9.9.9.9) and the only major difference is the ISP.

The mailboxes I want to config by my customer's side work pectly by my side (same params, passwd OK).

The weird thing is that on customer's side, creating a new mailbox never conclue. I mean your enter Name, email, passwd, select IMAP click on Continue > Configuration found in Mozilla ISP db. Keep IMAP (default), click done > stays forever on 'Mail for jdoe@hell.com: Sending login information' (with on some mailboxes like gmail 'Checking password...' "waiting".

How can we solve this problem, please? (Can I check logs ? N.B. pigning imap.isp.org works)

I'm not asking a question now; I already found the answer. I'm contributing an answer in case others run into the same problem I did. The archive function in Thunderbird was running painfully slowly. I remembered it as being fast, moving from local folders (from POP) to local archive folders quickly, but lately it had been slow, like seconds per message. And I had thousands of messages to deal with. This is on Windows 10 Pro.

The fix turns out to be in Settings -> Windows Security -> Virus and Threat Protections. It has an option "Cloud-delivered protection", which "Works best with automatic sample submission turned on". Now frankly that sounds like a major-league security hole to me, sending old private messages to Microsoft! Turning them both off fixed the problem. Now archive is entirely local and isn't held up by Windows mucking into the system and trying to make copies of private mail and send them to the mothership before moving them. I don't know how Windows "Threat protection" broke into the internal operation of T'bird but that was an easy fix once I found it, and the archive function is very fast, even moving thousands of messages at a time.

I am using Thunderbird version 128.7.0esr on Windows 11 Pro. I moved my Mail folder (and sub-folders) on my local drive. I re-directed each of 4 email accounts to their new sub-folder. The emails are downloading from the email host's POP3 server. New email messages are not visible in any of the inboxes. The counter shows the number increasing when messages are downloading. Global search does not find the new emails. The new emails show when I right click on any of the inboxes and select "Search Messages" (From/Contains."@"). I tried manually removing the Inbox.msf from one account, but did not fix when I restarted. I tried the Repair Folder button (right click Properties on Inbox folder), but did not fix. I know the emails are on my computer, but I cannot get to them without the very cumbersome "search messages" function. Suggestions?
