When I try to go to ebay -- using mozilla - I end up on ebay but a china or japanese one. I've set it to English - usa but no help. Sometimes I get to the website ok, but when I search and click on a product - then it goes to china ebay again. I'm unable to get on and search. sometimes I get a 403 error code, that says I'm forbidden to use this website What is going on?

Websites often try to geolocate and redirect you based on what they believe to be your IP address, typically in a range associated with a particular ISP. However, this can be inaccurate if you are connecting through a proxy, private VPN, or a network like TOR. Is there anything special about the way you connect to eBay?

If not, you might want to try this general advice:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on ebay.com, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

If you can't view ebay.com, open the dialog on this site and change the domain at the top from mozilla.org to ebay.com.

You might also clear cookies for ebaystatic.com.

Then try accessing eBay again. Any improvement?

In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Any difference?
