New Firefox installation is opening pages (e.g. Twitter.com) as text only. How can I fix this?

more options

I just installed Firefox (hoping to replace Chrome as my default browser) and I have noticed that quite a few pages open up as text only outlines (twitter.com, SBNation.com are examples). I have attached a screenshot. With these text only webpages, Firefox is unusable for me. Any suggestions?

That can happen when some content used in the page is blocked, particular style rules. A common reason for that with a new install is external security/filtering software that keys on the server name.

Have you noticed any untrusted connection error pages since you started using Firefox? If so, this can cause endless problems and we should get to the bottom of the source of the issue.

Can you open these style sheets directly, or are they blocked? A successful load is a wall of readable text:

Thanks for your reply. I get the "This Connection is Untrusted" message when I try to open those links directly.

That explains why they aren't being used to style the pages that appear unstyled. Let's investigate.

Does either of the pages have a section that says "I understand the risk"? If you expand that section, you should find an Add Exception button. You don't need to complete the process of adding an exception (I suggest not adding one until we know this isn't a malware issue) but you can use the dialog to view the information that makes Firefox suspicious.

Click Add Exception, then View. If View is not enabled, try the Get Certificate button first. Then in the Certificate Viewer, look at the "Issued by" section and see whether it looks like either of the attached. If not, what do you find there, and/or under Certificate Hierarchy?
