Why can't I put super and subscript on the toolbar with bold etc?
As a scientist, I often need to use superscript and subscript for formulae. It would be more convenient if they were alongside bold, italic etc on the toolbar (as they are in MIcrosoft's Live Mail, for instance). There seems to be plenty of spare space. While I can access them through Format, the number of extra steps is tedious. Customise toolbars doesn't seem to cover it. If the answer is, as I suspect, "You just can't", I suggest that it's something the developers might like to consider for the future.

Try this add-on:

If you find yourself needing greek letters and the like, try this add-on too:

Thanks. Found the add-on and downloaded it but couldn't get it to work. I suppose I'm missing something as it appears to be just what I want. When I hit "open" it takes me to a screen that seems to be about unzipping but I can't see how to do it.
I did provide a link with guidance on installing add-ons. You don't appear to have followed it.

It wasn't apparent in your message that this facility needed to be used as well. It now gives the report that it can't be installed because it's not compatible with version 45.
Argh. I hate it when that happens. That add-on is working perfectly here in TB45.0, so I had no reason to expect it not to work for anyone else.
Add-on compatibility checking was loosened some time ago. What version of Thunderbird are you running?
If you provide me an email address, I can email you a version of the add-on with the version compatibility declaration tweaked to include the current version of Thunderbird. This has just (re-)installed here in TB45.0.
