I noticed a couple of Firefox releases ago that Firefox now incorrectly adds a space after every German Umlaut on many webpages. This did not happen with earlier versions of Firefox and also does not happen with other browsers I tried - Safari, Chrome nad Maxthon. Running FF 48.0.1 on Mac OX 10.11.5 (ElCapitan).

Here is an example: http://www.gbdb.info/details.php?image_id=7102&mode=search&l=deutsch

This web page was created (that is description added) in March 2015 using the current version of Firefox at that time and the text was fine until recently with no pace after the Umlaut, ie ä, ü, ö etc.

I tested with old versions of Firefox (FF33/25), same issue. I tested with IE11, same issue. Maybe a website issue about the use of U+0308 (for ¨) and the charset.

Are you using a Mac to test? Wondering because you mentioned IE11 since MS hasn't offered IE for the Mac for many years now.

I did some more testing and came up with some strange results. This web page on the same website does not have the problem: http://www.gbdb.info/details.php?image_id=7461&l=deutsch ie - no space after the Umlaut in the German text. The website itself is based on the standard 4images software - the description in both cases was entered using a Mac. Only difference is that the description on the first webpage was entered a year and a half ago and on the second webpage about a month ago. I just checked the first webpageI linked to in my original post using Mac OS 10.6.8, also with FF 48.0.1 and the problem is not there - ie, no space after the Umlaut.
