How can I keep the firefox icon in the taskbar from expanding?

Most of the time when I click on the small, quadratic firefox icon in the task bar, it expands into the "page button" stating the page title.

However, sometimes when I click the icon it remains a small, quadratic button while opening the page with a seperate button next to it. Which I prefer and would like to have as a permanent option, but it seems to come and go on a whim - which I guess it doesn't, but I have no clue what I did to disable it or how I could bring it back.

Any ideas...?

Thanks for your help!

Hi, see if this works: When the second button appears - the one that you want, right click on it and pin to Taskbar, then right click the one you don't want and unpin it.

If that doesn't work, close Firefox then right click > unpin the button(s) from the Taskbar. Now start Firefox from the Start Menu or Desktop icon and right click > pin to Taskbar.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!

Hey, thanks for the reply. I had tried that before but unfortunately it doesn't seem to solve the issue. At the moment the second button is gone, good knows why, and pinning to task bar doesn't bring it back.
