I have noticed that when I go to a private window to search youtube for "Dimash reaction" ( I like to listen to some each day), that when I go back into the regular browser window, youtube suggests dimash videos. I do my search in the private window so that youtube won't flood the page with those music videos since I mainly watch news clips and if it's flooded with music videos I have to delete them one at a time over and over. How is it that the 'private' browser window is somehow visible to youtube?

The way Google connects your browsing among regular tabs is through cookies. All regular windows share one cookie jar, and all private windows share a second cookie jar, so unless there is some other factor, they should be distinct.

One possible way they might be connected is if you log in to the same Google account in both windows. Let me assume that is not the case, that in one or both windows you use YouTube anonymously (not logged in), or that you use different accounts in the two windows.

Another possibility is that they aren't actually regular and private but both regular or both private. Probably that wouldn't be the situation unless you set Firefox up to always use private windows ("Never Remember History" setting).

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
