Should I remove the following EXTENSIONS: Java Console 6.0.20, Java Console 6.0.22, & Java Quick Starter 1.0 (version number doesn’t match currently installed Java Version 6, Update 23); if so, HOW?

Does recommendation to remove outdated Java files apply to Extensions as well as to Plug-in files? If it does, which Extensions should I remove & how do I remove them? Does the Add-Ons Uninstall button get them out of my PC altogether, or will I need to do something else?

Seems I probably should remove Java Consoles 6.0.20 & 6.0.22, and keep Java Quick Starter 1.0 & Java Console 6.0.23, but I’d prefer to act on the knowledgeable advice if it’s available.

You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions

Disable the Java Quick Starter extension: Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions

  • Control Panel -> Java -> Advanced tab -> Miscellaneous -> Java Quick Starter (disable)

See http://www.java.com/en/download/help/quickstarter.xml - What is Java Quick Starter (JQS)? What is the benefit of running JQS? - 6.0

Thanks so much for your speedy, helpful reply & easy to follow instructions! Console extensions are now resting comfortably in Recycle Bin & Quick Starter has been disabled from Control Panel. kb.mozillazine was very enlightening for me - even though there is a wealth of useful info available, I never seem able to find it by myself. As a senior lady who just got her first PC 6 yrs. ago & who has only been using Firefox for 6 mo., I'm way behind the learning curve and truly appreciate help from those whose advanced knowledge I envy. Thank you, thank you!
