On Firefox 10.0.1 running on OS X 10.7.3, the mozilla.org plugincheck tells me that my Java Applet Plug-in is Vulnerable while running the same check on FF 10.0.1 on my Mini running 10.6.8 indicates that the Java Plu-in 2 for NPAPI Browsers is ok. The version of Java on both systems is the same (version 1.6.0.29). Why the discrepancy? Is there something I need to fix on the 10.7.3 system?

This thread: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2453333 contains a post with instructions that fixed my problem. Look for the post from RobertJ that begins with: "The problem is that the add-on manger gets its info from either the JavaAppletPlugin.plugin alias in the System library or this file"

I followed those instructions and the Firefox plugin check is now seeing the correct version of Java.

I cleared my cache and cookies and I'm still getting a warning about the Java Applet plugin being vulnerable when I do the plugin-check.

There are no instructions on fixing my problem in the Using the Java plugin with Firefox guide. I did verify on several of the Java testing sites in there that my Java installation for Firefox 10 on OS X 10.7.3 is working however I'm still getting the vulnerability warning. I will note that when I look at the Java site that the plugin checker sends me to: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp it tells me that the recommended Java version is version 6 update 31. On OS X 10.7.3 the Java version is 6 update 29 so maybe that's the problem? If that is the case then I'm confused as to why I don't see a warning on my Snow Leopard system that is running the same level of Java. I'll have to check that again when I get home.

My java plugin is working, that is not the problem.

Aside from your concern as to why you are seeing a Vulnerable warning on one system but not on the other, are you able to Update Java on 10.7.3 (the problem-related Mac) by clicking the "Update Now" button on Mozilla Plugins Check page ??

more options

No because Java on OS X comes from Apple, not Oracle and is updated whenever Apple gets around to it.
