Clicking on the New Tab icon opens to what may be to software/feature of my Apllian program. I would prefer that when I click on the New Tab icon, that Google opens up? Is that possible?

(actually, the new tab may be Bing related as I see the Bing logo to the right of the search bar.

Are you getting a list of 9 Thumbnails of recently visited websites on a new tab? That is a new feature in Firefox 13.

To set your own custom page for the new tab, do this:

Go to about:config in your address bar. Accept the warning. Search for browser.newtabpage.enabled. Double click the result to set it to False. Then, search for browser.newtab.url. Right click it, and Select Modify. In the field that appears you can type a webpage (for example, for Google you'd type www.google.com). then close, restart Firefox, and you should be good to go.

If there are problems with the search bar then try this extension:

If there is a problem with the about:home Home page then try to reset the search engine used on the about:home page.

Reset the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the about:config page and close and restart Firefox to restore the about:home page to its default.

  • Open the about:config page via the location bar
  • Type in the Filter bar: mstone
  • Right-click the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone line and select: Reset
  • Close and restart Firefox

tyledowner - where is the New Tab icon in FF 16 ?

more options

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar New Tab button.
If you can't find the New Tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

Well - no plus icon in the customize window and when I clicked restore- lost all my settings/icons etc in my toolbars.

Thankfully have a Restore Point from earlier to go to.

Any other suggestions?
