Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox are most probably caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and/or a malfunctioning Real Player browser plugin.

In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:

Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems

Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again

Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox

Other, more technical information about these issues can be found under these Links:

Disabling the ProtectedMode eliminates the hanging indeed. However, it replaces it with another problem, I seen before:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=745433

mouse clicking becomes unreliable in the Flash. It just cannot handle mouse properly when controls are small (yet large enough for the human to easily point over them precisely). I had to zoom the page to make flash capturing the mouse events properly.

Developers say that it is a Flash problem but none exist when I run the Flash in IE.

Now, I have realized that my too high Windows 7 screen resolution (custom text size of 200% = 192 DPI) or DPI virtualization used to achieve that can be a problem for many video applications http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/get-a-better-view-in-windows-7-by-adjusting-dpi-scaling/5404 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd940516%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

It seems that not only Firefox freezes, some MS products also suffer from the same, DPI virtualization, problem http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9663585/vs2010-stuck-freeze-in-any-kind-of-scrolling

And the solution used thereby, to "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" in Firefox shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility also fixes both the freezing and broken mouse problem! So, try FF compatibility before blaming the Adobe Flash Protected Mode. I think that it is a FF bug because it does not exist in IE and FF is an "older program".

After hours of trying all fixes posted, I uninstalled my latest and greatest flash player update, then reinstalled the previous version (10.3.183.43). Appears to have fixed the problem. If not--good-bye Mozilla, hello Chome, which worked fine before my hopeful fix.

Can't anyone just make a FU$%&# browser that works? I do not understand why I have to come on a forum and try this...or maybe that...or wait maybe this... just to be able to do what a browser is supposed to do..BROWSE THE INTERNET!

I switched over to Firefox from Chrome because Shockwave kept crashing non-stop while trying to listen to music on Soundcloud and now I have another browser that does the same thing except worse as far as I'm concerned because I have to restart the whole program.

I guess I just don't understand how it can be this difficult to accomplish tasks that seem so trivial in nature...the internet has been around for quite a while now and technology is evolving ever faster by the day but for some reason it seems that the reliability of web browsers is decreasing just as fast in the opposite direction.

Please excuse my frustration......I just wanna be able to listen to a whole DJ mix just one time. Is that really too much to ask? I can't even believe that I might have to resort back to IE...oh man...I thought things were moving forward but apparently I have been looking in the rear view mirror this whole time
