My wife's Vista computer suddenly failed to access other computer websites using Firefox 16.0 such as www.google.com,etc. However, Skype worked well. Also, an attempt at using Microsoft IE also failed. Asked her to perform, ipconfig /release, ipconfig /DNSflush, ipconfig /renew. This failed as well but I can't confirm that she executed all three commands over the phone. She had found at Network Connections that it was "disconnected". Reconnection resolved the issue.

However, she made an EFT using her account. Could this also been a point of vulnerability?

Hi there, whatever Firefox does has no effect on your internet connection whatsoever, Firefox is merely using the connection that the operating system, in this case Windows Vista, is providing. As you mentionied the computer was disconnected from the network. I do not know how Skype could have accessed the Internet given that, but I can assure you, using Firefox has no effect on your Internet connection at all.
