So my adobe flash plugin apparently keeps crashing and this has been going on for awhile now. When I watch videos on youtube, the audio will stutter. Sometimes the video will crash too and whenever I watch a video on teennick.com, the video is constantly freezing and/or crashing. I've tried using the 'safe mode" version of firefox and the problem still happens. This is so frustrating, someone please help.

acidhead, Thanks for reporting your solution to Flash lockups, which included reinstalling the Flash plugin after first doing a complete uninstall, including manual removal of leftover Flash files and folders.

For the benefit of others reading, Adobe includes instructions for uninstalling Flash on Windows in their own help article (linked from the Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems Firefox article) which is:

Hi KevinM333, did you disable the protected mode feature of the Flash Player plugin? See these for more info:

Halofromsue, Only one of those crash Report IDs was actually submitted, the one that starts with bp- (you can submit the others by clicking on them in the about:crashes page). The one available report, bp-33cf896b-5ad2-476e-9cef-610262140103 was for a crash in iobitappsToolbarFF.dll so You should disable or remove unneeded toolbars or other extensions. See Disable or remove Add-ons for help with that.

If Firefox or Flash continues causing problems, please submit additional crash reports .... but do that by starting a new thread. (See Mozilla Support rules and guidelines ...For support requests, do not re-use existing threads started by others, even if they are seemingly on the same subject.).

You can use this link to ask a new question, which will appear on the forum as a new thread:

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Hi ndana, as you can see from viewing your post here on the forum, one of the crash IDs was in the format we can access. It strongly suggests a graphics card driver incompatibility issue with your Nvidia GeForce.

Try disabling both Firefox and the Flash plugins from using hardware acceleration for graphics. Here's how:

(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

(B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

Flash only recently started locking up for me. after Silverlight plugin was installed from Visual Basic 2008.

what seemed to fix if for me.

1) Uninstall Silverlight

2) Uninstall Flash (using the Adobe uninstall tool)

  • Maybe part of the older version is left behind, after updating.

3) Delete ALL Macromedia files and folders from the system.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed
C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Application Data\Macromedia

4) Reboot.

5) Re-install Flash.

so far so good... But i won't hold my breath.

I have been using Firefox since somewhere around 2003. Up to this point I have been pleased but now I will have to move on to Google or Bing, though I don't want to.

For about a year I have uninstalled and reloaded Adobe Flash so many times I cannot begin to count. After about 1 - 2 days I get the all familiar crash, send the report, uninstall and start over to no avail. With so many people continuing to have this problem one would think Firefox would solve the problem along with Adobe.

Time to move on.

Hi classicrider, could you start a new thread with your system information, and also some links to your crash reports. This thread is close to its six-month expiration date and may be locked shortly.

After contacting the Skype help people, in Bangladesh, the problem was resolved. Not only did I have plugin crashes, I also had a nonfunctioning Skype and couldn't access my Dragon Naturally speaking.

I had to uninstall all the adobe plug ins (with their uninstall tool, not control panel, except for the shockwave for director) and for safety I unloaded shockwave for director, and confirmed that by checking the sys32 and sys32wow (for 64 bit) and deleted and instances of shockwave there, in macromedia, through Windows explorer.

Skype uses the Internet Explorer Version of the Plugin, whereas my normal browser id Firefox. A reboot will be needed and then I loaded from the adobe downloads the IE version, and then separately the FF version.

No further crashes (in 24 hours, skype working normally and without touching DNS that too started working). There was talk about SFC, but I never got to the bottom of that.

I suspect that part of the problem is that MSN tinkered with Skype software which wasn't broken, and broke it, in my instance causing the crashes I was experiencing.

Good luck.
