On the new version of Firefox the inactive tabs are clear and the writing in them almost disappears against my rotating backgrounds. Can the Mozilla team add some color back to the inactive tabs? I'd rather not have to install an add-on that mimics previous versions where the tabs had color. Thanks.

I use the Stylish extension to apply custom rules to Firefox's UI and to pages. I created one to add an outline around the tops of tabs which you can see/download here if you like:

Hi oil68, I don't know how well that meshes with your color scheme. I developed it on a Windows 7 Aero gray system.

Hi ramblerdan, I know what you mean.

If you can't find a solution quickly, please be more specific about what you want to change.

For general feedback to Mozilla, since this is just tech support here, you can use the Feedback page, either:

Note that the Firefox devs have considered this change important enough to include a special tour when launched for the first time (see browser.uitour.* prefs like browser.uitour.seenPageIDs if you want to restart).

You can open the about:config page via the location bar and you can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

@cor-el

What exactly does this mean? That they are explaining why you can't see the text and tabs through the initial tour..?

More info would be appreciated.

I also like to see the actual tabs. Another member suggested this fix (maybe it has already been mentioned)... http://userstyles.org/styles/100627/outline-background-tabs-firefox-29-australis

It worked for me. I'm happy now.

In general, the problem with FF29 is that Mozilla has removed the option of choice. It seems your attitude is, "Do it our way, or use another browser".

I don't want another browser -- this one is the best I've ever used. I think all we are asking is for the choice to do it the way that suits us. And put it on about:config so we don't have to search for an add-on or extension.

Download the classic theme restorer and under main/tabs, choose square tabs(V2).

As the "Classic Theme Restorer" is an option...the real point here is that they should be fixing the problem, instead of us having to use plugins.

Specific solutions via User Styles have been offered for the inactive Tabs background.

This thread has veered off-topic twice by the mention of an extension which doesn't do what this thread discussion was created to discuss. Therefore I am locking this thread and selecting the "best" answer as the solution.

ramblerdan and everyone else:

1) Please stop changing the appearance of the UI.
2) Please post a warning that you have changed the appearance of the UI. I just upgraded to v29 and regret it.

I have noticed a few people make similar comments. I must agree I consider it would be useful if Firefox did somehow warn users in advance of an Upgrade what the likely consequences will be.

Posts in this forum will not be read by Developers. Some Developers did read some posts for a few days after the Release but have left the forum again. Make a comment in feedback if you feel this is important. If enough people comment it may get noticed.

Also note that in Firefox 29 it does now at least respect the option to not upgrade without warning.
