It seems like all of a sudden, I can not open email attachments in Thunderbird. Don't have any idea what I might have done to cause this to happen. How do I fix it??

Try compact your Inbox, click with right button mouse on Inbox >> Compact
What actually happens when you try to open an attachment?
What type of attachment is it?
With which application do you want to open the attachment?
