Wish that FF people would actually come on and help but I do appreciate any and all advice. I d/l the new update on FF 2 days ago now all I get is a big huge window that pops up while I am on another site that has an ad for FF then it kicks me off the web site I was on and closes it out. I did a virus scan every thing is fine. As I said it is since I d'l the new update from FF. I don't want to be mean, but it seems like there are more and more problems with FF lately. UGh! Please help!

Could you capture a screen shot of that ad and attach it to a reply? This article has tips on the first part: How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

To rule out extensions as a possible culprit, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, some advanced features, and some custom settings. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Note: Flash and other plugins still run

Or, if Firefox is not running, hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox

After Firefox closes, a small dialog should appear: click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

If you get a pop-up message asking to update Firefox or plugins then such a message is likely a scam and you should never respond to such an alert to avoid getting infected with malware.

  • Only update Firefox via "Help > About" or by downloading and installing Firefox from the Mozilla server and never via a pop-up or link on a web page.
  • Plugins should only be updated via the plugin itself or by visiting the home page of the plugin.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
