Running Windows 7 and Thunderbird 31.6.0. Thunderbird just updated to the latest version. I have two issues:

1) With this latest update when I hover over and right click the Thunderbird icon on the taskbar the only thing that shows up is a small representation of the window. There is no "pin to taskbar" option. This means that I have to search for Thunderbird every day to start it up. Everything else on my task bar is working normally - they have "unpin from taskbar" etc.

2) Every time I update to a new version of Thunderbird. The icon that was pinned on the taskbar loses it link to the new exe file. I have to delete the old icon on the taskbar, find Thunderbird, run Thunderbird and the pin the new icon to the taskbar.

Also, I found thunderbird.exe and dragged it to the taskbar. IT seemed to pin OK. When I launch it a NEW, separate icon appears on the taskbar that has tha same symptoms. Now when running Thunderbird I have two icons, one that is pinned and the actual Thunderbird session.
