I am adding a google calendar to thunderbird 31.4 with lightning 3.3.3 and reach the point where I need to select the calendar type. The FAQ says pick "google calendar type" but that isn't a choice I only have iCalendar CalDAV or Sun WCAP. I have tried the first two (using my xml url) and ICAL wont turn on (uncrosses itself) whilst CalDAV seems active but won't sync. I am alo not asked for login info when clicking Next

Those instruction I think are for using the privider for google calendar.

Caldav has been the preferred method for some time, but getting the URL from your google account is not always obvious.

How do I set up the new calendar?

To use the new CalDAV Endpoint, you will need Lightning 2.6 and Thunderbird 24, which will be released tomorrow, September 17th. There will be a blog post on the release tomorrow, so please use the navigation to view the new post when its there to get the download links. Anyway, here are the steps:

  • Open the new calendar dialog (File → New → Calendar)
  • Add a new remote calendar (On the Network → CalDAV)
  • As a location enter the following, be sure to replace your email address:
   https://apidata.googleusercontent.com/caldav/v2/your-email-address/events

More details on how to set up from Google can be found here.
