I use a master password and tick the remember me box for most web sites. Recently Firefox has not been inserting the password during log in. I am asked for the master password but get no response after inputting it. I have checked the password list and all my passwords are there.

Try the version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

Did you try a fresh start in the new profile without copying any files (in particular logins.json and key3.db) to the new profile?

Note that Firefox won't auto-fill names and passwords in Private Browsing mode or if the website is using autocomplete=off in the input form or field.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, choose History, and then "Clear Recent History...".
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

Further information can be found in the Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

If the new profile works then you can try to copy the logins.json and key3.db files to this profile and check again if it works. If not then there might be a problem with the logins.json file. Make sure that there aren't any entries with an empty name present in the Password Manager.

None of the suggestions helped. I have now completely removed Firefox and reinstalled it and the problem is still there.
