Version 45.2.0 (automatically updated)

Cannot receive messages since Friday 2016-08-26

Thunderbird was working fine before this sudden change. I can send messages and they are received by the addressees. I can see my messages on the ISP’s email interface. I have been running Windows 10 without any problems since the end of June 2016 I have double-decked my ISP account settings and they are correct. I do not run an antivirus program, except what’s automatically included in Windows 10 updates. My ISP does not offer help with problems specific to Thunderbird.

I have even uninstalled Thunderbird 45.2.0 and downloaded a fresh copy. Nothing has changed.

I am stumped!

I solved the problem by changing the port number from 110 (which I had always used without problem) to 995, and the security setting from STARTTLS to SSL/TLS. So, problem solved. Thanks to whoever considered my question.
