What I would like to be able to do seems simple to me, but I cannot find the option to do it.

Basically when I click the Star icon to create a bookmark, a menu pops up with the name, folder, and tags.

The default folder location is always set to "Other Bookmarks" I would like a way to change this default location to "Bookmarks Menu"

this would save me time creating bookmarks, because I never use "Other Bookmarks", I only use "Bookmarks Menu" and folders that I have personally created to organize my bookmarks. so every single time i create a bookmark I have extra step involved of opening the folder drop down selector and picking "Bookmarks Menu" instead of "Other Bookmarks"

I use bookmarks a LOT, as I am sure many people do, and I am now exclusively using Firefox, I used to use Google Chrome. This is a feature I really want badly, is there an advanced settings or expert options dialog or config that I can open to change this behavior?

Someone created an add-on to replace the built-in star button with one that is more configurable. I haven't tried it myself, and there are no reviews yet:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-bookmark-folder/

Note: You do not need to use the Add-on's new button to change the default folder for new bookmarks. You can select the new folder in the settings for the extension and stick with Firefox's regular buttons.

I apologize that I don't know of any way to change the default for when you click the star icon. I can tell you that every other method I know of does default to Bookmarks Menu:

  • Ctrl+d
  • right-click a blank area of the page > star icon on the context menu
  • (menu bar) Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page

Hopefully one of those will fit your workflow.

Note that you can also drag the tab to the Star on the Navigation Toolbar to open the drop-down list and drop the file there.

I will use Ctrl+d for now, but a way to change default location of star icon would be excellent. Thank you for letting me know that ctrl+d saves where I am wanting it to.

This used to be the case for me but now since the last update to 58.0b4 (64bit) it's saving to 'Other Bookmarks' by default instead.

Cheers, I appreciate your time & knowledge. My thanks.

As a matter of interest: Do you know why this change was implemented?

No. I mean, they were inconsistent, but if you were resolving that, why choose Other Bookmarks?

"No. I mean, they were inconsistent, but if you were resolving that, why choose Other Bookmarks?"

The change was forced, I did not implement it, hence my reason for seeking help here to reverse or resolve this issue, which the App in the link you provided managed to do. I'm merely curious as to why it was changed in the first place by Mozilla? It seems to me somewhat odd, much like a Microsoft move & that irks. Anyway, it's resolved/patched thanks to your help, my thanks.

That question wasn't for you, it was with eyes and palms turned up toward the heavens. You know, since you are using a pre-release version, it's not to late to try to get it changed. Just not sure of the best place to make noise since there is SO MUCH traffic on other issues everywhere.
