Bear with me... If I open a new tab and then use a bookmark or type a URL directly into the search bar, Firefox is very quick and opens up the pages without any problems. However, if I run a google search and click on the links in the results, the new tab opens but takes much longer to open the page - sometimes up to a minute.

The same thing happens with out own business's website: If I type the URL of any of our pages into the search bar we get there very quickly. But if I click on a link to our website from another page (like Tripadvisor or the local newspaper for example), the process is very slow again.

Can anyone help with what's going on here please? We can't really afford for our website to not open quickly once potential visitors have found it on Google! Thanks in advance UF

Hi, please provide the URL to the Website or alternatively please check your pages code here to see if your code is the issue (your site only) : HTML https://validator.w3.org/ CSS https://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ Enter the URL or upload a page.

As for slow all around :

You can also try to figure out if a Extension/Add-on is the problem :Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Hi Pkshadow and thanks for offering to help. I will be totally honest and say that I'm not prepared to run through all of those standard articles again and engage safe mode again and do the rest of the stuff that has not solved the problem to date... who has empty days to just waste away on this nonsense?!?

Only in the tech world do the creators of products expect their users and customers to fix problems. Can you imagine owning a car and your mechanic just gives you a spanner and workshop manual at service time and tells you to 'get on with it'.

When Mozilla fixes the problem, I'll come back from Chrome and use it again.

Check your web page code. Fix the issues. Which I am sure there are and I guess by ignoring my suggestions you are ignoring your customers by default.

Thanks for Contacting Firefox Support.
