I am using TB 60.4.0 (32-bit) on a Window 10 (64-bit) OS. My problem is that TB always prints to my default printer on my computer. There is no printer selection dialog box that pops up. It just goes straight to the default printer. Is there a setting that anyone knows of that I can toggle in the config settings or the registry? I hesitate to install the 64 bit version because it is still in testing at this time. Thank you in advance.

sflowers,

I did find an entry (print.always_print_silent) that showed it had been modified (maybe some other program or printer when installed) that I changed the setting to "False" instead of "True".

Now I have the print dialog box that allows me to choose which printer I want to use.

Thank you very much for your help!

When you select File/Print... (Ctrl+P), the Print window should appear where you can choose the printer (see picture). Reset the printer and see if that now happens: Tools/Options/Advanced/General/Config. editor, right-click print_printer, Reset, OK to close Options, restart TB.

sfhowes,

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, I do not get a print window (choose printer dialog box) initially when I either select File/Print or use the keystrokes (Ctl+P). It just directly prints to my windows default printer.

Maybe if I knew what name to use for the select printer dialog box, I could enter that in the Config Editor for print_printer?

Thanks again.

TB prints to the system's default printer, and that is the main effect of doing the print_printer reset, although it sometimes fixes other problems. But I don't know why you don't see the Print window. Do you see it when printing from other programs? If not, it would seem there's an issue at the Windows level, which might be fixed by uninstalling and re-installing the printer and setting it as the default.

Sfhowes,

Thanks again for helping me. All my other programs provide the print window. TB is the only one that prints directly to my default printer.

Interesting enough, this same TB printing problem did the same thing last year on my old Windows 7 (64bit) laptop too as it is doing on my new Windows 10 (64bit) laptop. That is why I'm thinking it may be an issue using the 32 bit version on a 64bit system?

I would think there would be a switch either in the registry or in the config settings that could correct this.

I appreciate you trying to help me. Thank you.

I don't think the problem is related to using TB 32-bit on W64, otherwise there would be many similar reports. There are many preferences for the printer in Config. editor (search on print), but most of them deal with page margins etc. If you notice a printer preference, that isn't printer-specific, that is bold, you could right-click, Reset, to return to the default, in case that is the source of the problem. You might even run in safe mode (hold Shift when you launch TB) and see if the Print window appears, which would suggest a broken layout. Starting once in safe mode sometimes resets hidden settings that are otherwise difficult to diagnose.

If none of that helps, I would set another printer as the Windows default, e.g. 'Microsoft print to PDF', reset print_printer, and see if the Print window appears in TB.
