How can I get a new email alert from Thunderbird in Windows 10?
When a new email arrives on my Windows 10 lenovo laptop I get a pop-up visual notification from Thunderbird 68.8.0 but no sound (yes, my speakers are on and the volume turned up).
I have checked/tried the following:
In Thunderbird: Tools -> Options: General: "Play a sound" and "Default system sound for new email" are both checked but clicking the "Play" button does not produce any sound. Add-ons: I tried installing and configuring the "Mailbox Alert" add-on but still got no sound so I removed it again. In Windows: Settings -> Sounds: Advanced sound options: Mozilla Thunderbird is listed with the default settings, same as everything else that does work. Related Settings -> sound control panel -> sounds: Desktop Mail Notification and New Mail Notification both have Play Windows Startup sound checked and the "Test" button when clicked there does play the sound Notifications & actions: Thunderbird is not included in the list under "Get notifications from these senders", I don't see any way to change that, and from what I've read that is to be expected.
I have no problems with any sounds from my laptop.
What else can I check/do to try to get a sound out of this thing when an email arrives?

Open the volume mixer and check the level for system sounds and/or Thunderbird.

That was it! Mozilla Thunderbird was muted there, I unmuted it and now it works. Thank you!
You're welcome.
