Greetings,

Recently I am unable to log in to FireFox Sync from my desktop. I am using an older version of FireFox so I am wondering if support for older versions of FireFox was recently dropped? If this is the case where can I find details of what versions were dropped from FireFox Sync support.

Thanks!

What Firefox version(s) is this about and on what platform ?

Note that it isn't recommended to use older Firefox versions with disclosed security vulnerabilities.

Can you login to the Firefox account via this web page?

Greetings,

I can sign into https://accounts.firefox.com/signin from Chrome. Just not from FireFox, unless I install the most current version...which I did on a test system.

I know generally it's recommended to use most current versions of software. However, there are a number of Add-Ons we use daily that aren't supported in newer versions...without these Add-Ons AND Sync working there isn't anything separating us from using FireFox over Chrome, which itself has some valuable features that FireFox does not.

I have tried searching for comparable Add-Ons to the ones we are using now and there aren't any for the most current version FireFox. (Have spent about a week using the most current version of FireFox on my test system.) There are a few add-ons for Chrome, however, that do function more closely to what we have in our older version of FireFox.

Having worked in the software/hardware industry for the past twenty-five years, I know that there comes a time where progress catches up with everyone and unfortunately that means features you are used to will have to be sacrificed...I was hoping that wouldn't be the case with our FireFox distribution it but looks like the times have finally caught up.

Thanks for the feedback. Will need to do a hard eval between current versions of Chrome and FireFox now.

Regards.

You pretty much answered your own question. Having an old version that is not compatible would do it. It makes me wonder what addons could be so important that you would refuse to update? I would very much doubt that chrome would have the functionality you are looking for over firefox. But I guess you don't have your browsers set up for conventional usage.

Greetings,

Not entirely. My original question was:

"I am using an older version of FireFox so I am wondering if support for older versions of FireFox was recently dropped? If this is the case where can I find details of what versions were dropped from FireFox Sync support."

The fact that I can't use Sync with my older version answers the first part of the question. This wasn't a problem about two months ago. However I never did get details on what FireFox versions were recently dropped from Sync support.

Regarding Chrome: it has actually come quite a long way and the features we need most are indeed in the latest version of it...features that were literally added two months ago and features that it supports internally without Add-Ons. (The timing does seem a bit coincidental now that I think about it.) Granted these features don't work quite the same as the Add-Ons in the older version of FireFox we are using but they function close enough that I can pitch them to our team. Closer than any of the other Add-Ons I researched in FireFox.

To be honest, for the longest time...I HATED Chrome. It lacked several basic features that made it unusable in our environment. I've gone through a few different browser standards over the decades myself: Netscape, I.E., FireFox...as well as tested a few others that I ultimately rejected: Safari, Edge, Opera, etc.

FireFox has been our standard for about a decade now. But I guess it is time to shift again the Paradigm.

Thanks again for the input.

Regards.

Greetings,

Ha. Interesting development: apparently my inability to log into Sync under an older browser was a temporary one...it is working fine now after being unable to for a couple of weeks. Not sure what happened but I did not change anything on my end so it must have been server-side.

Guess I will continue to use both Chrome and FireFox. Thanks everyone for their comments on my support thread.

Regards.

Mozilla changed how the log-in work. I can't log in using my v54 anymore. Support, add-ons, and sync.

Interesting. I am able to log into sync just fine now on my desktop.

Can confirm this because I am able to see tabs from my mobile devices that I just accessed today.
