Win 10 will no longer open Eudora7 (I have used for over 20 years). I wanted a program that would import My email folders, emails and contacts. So I installed Eudora 8.0 Beta 9 (which will only open in safe mode). But 90 % of my emails get the error "Cannot communicate securely" so I end up hitting OK a dozen times before email opens up. And on those particular emails, the Beta 9 program will not forward them. So I installed Thunderbird 78.7.0 which opens all my new emails. I have gone to TOOLS, IMPORT and it shows emails, contacts etc., but when clicking OK, error comes up "No application found". However, after installing Thunderbird, all those emails and folders that were stored as MBX or FOL on eudora do show under Thunderbird as SBD(folders) & MSF(emails), but will not open up nor show when I open thunderbird. Thanks, Lloyd

New versions don't import from Eudora anymore, so if you use that method, you have to use an older version, as the cited topic explains. Install the old version in a separate folder, and run it in a separate profile, to keep your current profile untouched. After it's installed, open a Run window (Windowskey+R), type

<path to old version>/thunderbird.exe -p

to launch Profile Manager, and create a new profile named, e.g. TBoldEudora. Once you have imported Eudora mail, it can be copied to the TB 78 profile by copying the mbox files to Mail/Local Folders in the current profile.

This procedure may be difficult for new users of TB, but I'm not familiar with other methods or clients that achieve the same result.

Hi Eudora - a fine tool. Thunderbird used to have a direct import wizard in earlier versions. One approach would be to make a backup of Eudora, install an old Thunderbird version, do the import and check all is as it should be, make another backup, then work through the Thunderbird updates to the current version. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_Issues_:_Import_From_Eudora https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switching-thunderbird#w_importing-from-outlook-and-eudora and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1228297 - it's been a little while since this answer... Good luck!

Those are the same questions I reviewed before which did not help. I have the new 78.7.0 with some new folders and quite a few emails Does it mean I have to install an OLD T'bird version and if so, what happens to the data on my current installation. None of this was clear in any of the forums. If eudora rescue is supposed to work, why can't I import to current version? 1. Do I backup the data from the 78.7.0 version and uninstall it. 2. What is old version (###) and how far back do go? 3. Is there another email client that will import folders and emails easier?

When Win 10 would not let me use Eudora 7 anymore I installed and used Eudora 8 Beta, but had to use "Safe mode" Hated it as I had to click on enter a dozen times before a lot of my emails would open up so I decided to use Thunderbird as it supposedly would import my folders. I downloaded the latest version (68 or 78?) and it did not show any email programs when I tried to import. So, I uninstalled completely and installed TB 17. However, I have some problems: 1. When trying to import "Everything", it doesn't find any email program, 2. So I clicked on only "mail", it shows Eudora, outlook, and another email program. When clicking on Eudora, error comes: No mailboxes were found to import. I have about 30 folders with another 60-70 Subfolders. In Eudora, the extension is .mbx. . 3. So I tried only contacts, it found Eudora and then asked for location which i opened in TB. However, When I opened my contacts, only icons showed. When clicking on each icon, a popup came up showing the contact. but to also show the name and email I had to manually input all the info in the popup window., Not much different than inputting manually from a printed list. 4. I downloaded TB 17 on my laptop also and data is stored on Onedrive. However, when comparing my folders I am using now, there may be 22 messages in a specific folder on my desktop, but the laptop shows 24 in that folder. or another folder 125 on Desktop and 117 on laptop. I could not figure why the discrepancy I can live with Nbr 3 and nbr 4. as I can manually input contact info. But I have a lot of emails on Eudora that I need desperately need to be able to access.

I've never used Eudora, but it can still be downloaded, and it appears to work in W10 if you choose the installation folder:

Maybe the TB import works better with v. 7 than with v. 8beta.
