How do I shut off Google PacMan sound other than turning volume off?

more options

I started Firefox, sirens blared, I thought I had been hit with a virus. Went to Google to search for a solution and found PacMan on their home page, apparently the problem. Now when I leave Google website, sound continues. How do I shut this off, other than going to Internet Explorer?

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

smitthy - No it's not! It started on every page I went to and for me it did NOT start on Google. It started when I was on Yahoo!, then LinkedIn, Espn.com ... every page. Know your facts before mouthing off.

Yeah disable Cool Previews. Worked for me too.

Stupid thing started all of a sudden, don't know why. How random.

You need to uninstall CoolPreviews not just disable it (then restart Firefox). Loss of Cool Preview is annoying and Firefox & CoolPreview need to get together quickly to sort it out.

who cares whether IE users are having problems! Not Bill Gates I'll bet!

Only disabling Cool Previews is a definite fix!

  • textUninstalling and reinstalling CoolPreviews even after cleaning registry, temp files, etc. does not work.
  • textRemoving Google as home page, preferred search engine, or toolbar has no effect.
  • textProblem is not related to visiting Google. Does not matter where you start or go....PacMan begins.

Only disabling Cool Previews is a definite fix!

Disabled it. Tried to enable it, and the sound came back. SO what do we do when we want to use the coolpreviews again? Do I have to uninstall it, then reinstall cool previews to gain that feature back without the annoying noise? Or wait for an update?

If your problem is how to stop the Google Pacman logo from auto-playing, I was able to control it by just typing a letter in the search field.

I don't have CoolPreviews installed here, so can't comment on that.

I didn't use Google. The row was on every page I visited. I don't use IE. I use a Mac with Firefox and Safari. This din didn't happen on Safari. It happened on Firefox. I followed an early suggestion to disable CoolPreview and the din continued. I uninstalled CoolPreview and the din stopped.

The noise was unwanted and intrusive and makes me less likely to use Google in future. There are other serach engines afterall!

Turning off Cool Previews doesn't work.

What WILL work is when Google takes the Pacman game off their site.

However, the real problem is in Firefox somehow.
