After installing FF9 the little box at the end of the address bar that turned red when something on a site was loading is gone or at least doesn't turn red anymore. I am using Win 7 home premium 64 bit.

Firefox 4 and later use a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end of the location bar.
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
Middle-click the Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.

That's the button I am talking about but with FF 8 it turned red until the site loading was complete. This has stopped after I installed FF 9 over FF 8. I would like to have that feature back.

Do you still see that combined Reload/Stop/Go button on the location bar?

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key to make the menu bar appear.

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"

  • Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize"
  • Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up

Yes, the combo arrowed circle and X in still there and still changes to an X when something is loading, it just doesn't turn red anymore.

If you get the X on the location bar, but it has a gray color then you only need to find a theme that has a red Stop button.

I posted a theme above in my first reply that you can try in case you missed it and haven't tried it.

Nope that isn't what I am looking for . With that theme the X is red all the time. With FF 8 the X was only red when a site was being loaded.

Not related to your question, but...
