I'm on Firefox V14.0.1 on MacOS X. Why isn't Flash Player preinstalled in the browser ? I don't like that the Flash Player installer from Adobe asks for my MacOS user password, especially since Chrome has Flash Player V11.3.300.268 preinstalled; I never needed to enter my user password for that.

Two possible reasons I can think of

  • It is not open source software,
it is propriety software from a commercial third party
  • it is not essential to Firefox's function,
and although it is admittedly currently popular, it is also causing problems. At present it is often crashing or interfering with other software for some Firefox users.
