Note that Shockwave for Director and Shockwave Flash are different plugins.
The former Shockwave for Director is hardly used these days.
Which plugin isn't working?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
- disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
- disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
I installed "Shockwave Player", and I think "Director" is in reference to that. I think "Shockwave Flash" might be what you get when you ask for Adobe Flash, which passes the test as if it works. Why the name games; who knows.
For Shockwave for Director see:
Download Full EXE Installer
Download Slim EXE Installer
Download MSI Installer

Same problem in safe mode.
What do the welcome test pages say?
Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page that doesn't require authentication (signing on)?

This one has a 3D image working for me, but it automatically invoked some SW install: http://necromanthus.com/Games/ShockWave/test/RTL.html

Flash is fine; shockwave, not.
I'm on Linux, so can't do any Shockwave for Director testing.
Do you see that plugin as enabled in Tools > Add-ons > Plugins ?
Tools > Add-ons > Plugins implies that it is enabled and offers the "Disable" option. I guess they don't explicitly state "enabled", but I think it is.
Yes, if you see disable then the plugin is enabled and should work.
You can also check the about:plugins page.
Try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder and maybe addons.sqlite as well to reset the plugin registry databases.
See Re-initializing the plugins database:
