Clear address bar suggestions
I have this annoying problem that I so far can't find a solution for. I have been using Firefox for ages, and until recently this wasn't a problem. In the past, when I wanted to clear history (all history whatsoever) I could just hit the "Clear recent history" and then cross the "Browsing & download history" and "Form & Search history" and select everything in the dropdown-menu. Now this doesn't do the trick! Firefox still remembers which sites I have visited by suggesting them in the address bar. Let's say I'm visiting randomwebsite.com, and then clear the history as above. Then when I type in "ra" in the address bar, it will suggest randomwebsite.com. I can't find ANY ways to work around this, other than disabling the suggestions altogether, which is not what I want. I use Mac OS 10.9.2., Firefox 29.0.

Thanks for the answer but following the "Clearing all items in the Location bar history" does not work, as it is the same procedure as I specified in my original query.
Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows:
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
WARNING: Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

very simple solution. Type any letter in the Google search box and it will show all of the suggestions that start with that letter. Just point to the suggestion you want to delete, it will be highlighted, and hit delete. It may be tedious if there are many suggestions, but this beats a full re-install of the program, which by the way does not solve the problem.
