Can't get new messages.
I keep getting this error message: "The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: problem retrieving message."

For the RETR command to fail, there has to be a problem on the server. The mail client (Thunderbird) is only asking the server to provide what it has already said is available.
Check with AT&T about this.
I have this error also--and it seems to have started when ATT?Yahoo switched to their new mail pgm/format.
