Sounds like something you definitely want to remove, if only to maintain your sanity!

There's a reasonable chance that these appeared as part of a bundle with some other software you installed. You can go to the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and click the "Installed on" column heading to group the entries by date. Then look for any unknown/unwanted programs and remove them.

This article lists malware cleanup tools other Firefox users have found helpful: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Last but not least, check your Firefox extensions. I suggest disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
