When I open a new tab i see smooth looking Google search with big nice Firefox logo on top center, and it automatically makes me type in that search. Is there a way to automatically type in address bar when a new tab is opened? Just moved back to Firefox and this is pretty annoying. Thanks in any advice. -Karl

It sounds like you've set browser.newtab.url to about:home which opens the default home page in each new tab. The simplest thing to do is reset that preference so that the New Tab Page opens instead:

  1. Type about:config into the address bar and press Enter.
  2. To bypass the warning, press the big button labeled "I'll be careful, I promise!".
  3. In the search box, paste browser.newtab.url
  4. In the search results, right-click browser.newtab.url and choose Reset.

Otherwise,

  1. Install Custom New Tab.
  2. Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
  3. Next to Custom New Tab, click the Options button.
  4. Set whatever page you want to open in each new tab (about:newtab is the default; about:home is the default home page), and make sure "Place focus in URL bar" is not checked.

Thanks a lot, Reset did the trick.
