Version 30: I hit the bookmarks star & the search function has disappeared. Plus, the b/marks list covers part of the tab... can i get the search back?
FFox updated itself to version 30 -- most unfortunately as it happens. Until now, hitting the bookmarks star opened a window on the left with a search window on top & the list of bmarks following. The search window now has disappeared, and the bmarks list covers the actual page I am browsing... Can I get the search function back? Maybe even put a stop to bmarks list maskign whatever I am browsing?
Alternatively, what other reputable browser can you recommend thereby ridding myself of this and any future destructive "improvements"? Thank you

You can install the Classic Theme Restorer extension if you want a dedicated toolbar button to open the bookmarks sidebar.
- Classic Theme Restorer: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/
You can check out the settings of the CTR extension via its Options/Preferences button on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" page.

You can find the "View Bookmarks Sidebar" in the drop-down list of the "Show your bookmarks" button that is the dropmarker part of the star on the Navigation Toolbar to bookmark the current page.
There is also a sidebar icon in the Customize palette that you can drag on a toolbar to have access to the same items that you see in View > Sidebars (tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu bar).
- "3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize

Thanks for responding. I dragged the star, but the sidebar does not appear -- just the list that masks the page. Regards
The sidebar icon is the icon between the history (clock) icon and the downloads (Down) arrow icon in this screenshot.
Thanks again. Done. I notice that this button opens a choice of sidebars rather than automatically open the bookmarks. No problem, I can live with that &/ or control^B.

Thank you. I do have the CTR, but I think I'll just live with the sidebar button as you first suggested: just so that I don't make things any worse instead of better! Kind regards
