Previously while using firefox new tabs would open to opensoftwareupdater.com(This is now bing blocked by firefox). Dell techs could not find the problem, so they sent disks to me for the operating system. The hard drive was formated and windows 8.1 was installed. I have only downloaded firefox and my printer software. Now new tabs are opening to www.reimageplus.com. This seems to only happen the first time I use the browser after opening a couple of tabs myself. After I close the bad tabs it does not happen again in that session. There are no programs in programs and features or addons and extensions. I have run Malwarebytes, hitman, adwvleaner, spybot, superantispyware, iobit malware, tdsskiler, jrt junkfile remover and Mcafee(my Antivirus). Nothing is being found by any of these. Please help me find the problem since a clean install did not help.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thanks for replying. I have run all of the scans listed and more, most in normal and safemode. All scans are clean. I have unistalled and reinstalled firefox and reset it multiple times. There are no programs to remove in programs from the control panel. Today the ony site I went to was facebook, When I opened a new tab from facebook multiple tabs were opened to www.tuneuppro.com . The web page looks exactly like the www.reimageplus.com that I have been redirected to previously. I checked the cookies and these were listed: network.adsmarker.com, popnex.sus.com, systweak.com and tuneuppro.com and facebook.com. Please any other ideas on how to stop this, or what is causing it? I have had this computer for 3 months and have not been able to use it for any online tasks because I do not know if it is safe. I have already done a clean install of windows.

If using various malware scanners does not fix it or if you are blocked from installing those scanners then ask advice at a forum that specializes in malware removal.

Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

Check the :newtab setting;

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type about:config. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.newtab.url and press enter. browser.newtab.url tells Firefox what to show when a new tab is opened. If you want, right click and select Modify. You can change the setting to;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any web page or about: page you want.

The same instructions are used for the new window setting, listed as browser.startup.homepage.
