Copy and paste is not working at all for anything

I am on Windows 7, using Thunderbird 24.6.0 I can see cut, copy and paste on the right click menu. When I copy anything (Usually I just copy text from messages) and try to paste it, nothing happens. I can see "paste" on the right click menu, but nothing happens when I click it. Control+V does not work either.

does the same thing occur if you restart with add-ons disabled from the help menu.

I just tried it and , no. In this case, copy was available on the right click menu but paste was grayed out when I went to paste. Control V also does not work.

greyed out I would expect... it sounds like copy is not happening. does the Ctrl + C work Or Ctrl X

And for the next obvious but more painful check. Windows safe mode with networking. instruction for Windows 7.
