I set my home pages in tools/options/general as (use current pages) after, of course, previously setting them in their tabs. (mail, weather, etc) After leaving Firefox and coming back, the home pages I set briefly flash, but then revert to "show my windows and tabs from last time". I can click on the home icon and the tabs are correctly inserted

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

I exited Firefox, deleted prefs.js, (saved an OLD) restarted firefox, reset homepages (use current pages) and deliberately browsed elsewhere. Exited Firefox. Restarted Firefox and still got the "show my windows and tabs from last time".
