How do I fix a broken Firefox?

Firefox was misbehaving--wouldn't let me print, certain videos wouldn't play...functionality was waning. Tried default settings, reinstalling...nothing helped.

NOW, after I installed the latest version, Firefox won't start. When I click the icon, nothing happens. I went to Add/Remove Programs, but even that had no effect. (I'm running XP.) Firefox is my favorite browser. Do I have to give it up?
