Some emails disappeared - I search on a keyword in their titles - shows they are in a "local folder" that is not displayed - how do I find this phantom folder?

The action preceeding this was a renaming of the folder - but I renamed it by right-clicking on the folder name and selecting "properties" and changing the name and "OK".

The search finds the email, but I cannot display it.

If more clarification is required, please let me know.

The folder was a sub-folder - if this makes a difference.

Did you try "Compact Folders" for that account?

Select a folder for the account affected, then:

Menu bar: File: Compact Folders

This does not do it. I think the message part of the email has been lost, because when I do the search, it shows the header information, but is unable to display the message.

Confirm what you mean by : shows they are in a "local folder"

Before you renamed that sub-folder, was the folder in your 'Local Folders' mail account?

OR Do you have an IMAP mail account and it was one of the folders in that IMAP mail account? If it was a sub folder in an IMAP mail account, you would need to subscribe to see it.

The sub-folder was in my 'Local Folders' mail account. The sub-folder was in another folder in the 'Local Folders'.

I am not using IMAP.

I have abandoned recovery and went to a backup and replaced the contents that way,

In future, when I rename a folder, I will use the "rename" and not the "properties".

What did you call the folder? old_Mail will work. Old/mail will not, plus other variations
