All of the sudden, my tabs don't have the "x" or "+" shortcuts to open and close a tab. What happened?

The home and new tab buttons may be restored by customizing Firefox and dragging and dropping the buttons back into position.

As for the tab close button, does this issue still occur in Firefox safe mode?

Make sure that all toolbars are visible.

  • "3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize: Show/Hide Toolbars button
  • if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the Restore Defaults button to restore the default toolbar setup

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
