firefox is not saving my browsing history. how can I fix this?
I checked the "history" pulldown in the toolbar, and it is empty. I am using a new computer, and have imported my profile from an older computer. How do I resolve this problem without losing current history? I did successfully import bookmarks and passwords.
xmarks will not sync successfully, and firefox sync throws the error message "sync encountered an error while syncing: unknown error. sync will automatically retry this action". I have been unable to get past this problem.

Go to the drop down menu in the top right and click options. Click on the privacy tab and make sure it says 'Firefox will: remember history' and not 'Firefox will: Never remember history'. This should ensure it does not keep deleting your history
I had already selected "firefox will remember history". Something else is wrong here; I just don't know what it is.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
Open the History Manager <Control><Shift> H. Is this also blank?
History manager is blank. There doesn't seem to be an issue with the places.sqlite file (it's not set up to be read-only), but the bookmark issue and history problem still isn't resolving. Can't use Sync, and xmarks isn't working, either.
Create a new profile. Use it for a time. Does the issue come back?
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles Windows: 32-bit C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -p 64-bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -p Mac: Navigate to /Applications/Utilities. Open the Terminal application. In the Terminal application, enter the following: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -p Linux: In Terminal run: firefox –P For users who have one or more builds from mozilla.org this will not work. It would be best to have the full path so if you had placed the untared contents in a folder in /home it would be /home/<username>/foldername/firefox/firefox –P An easy way would be not to do it in a terminal but in say a launcher since you have to point it to the firefox script in Firefox folder you can then add –P on end. You can also have the exact "profilename" after the -P so Firefox will start with that Profile.
