I have followed the instructions to import all bookmarks and personal data from Chrome but FF is not auto-filling fields with the usernames and passwords that were stored in Chrome. Is there a way to get this data also? Do I already have it and just need to take some more steps?

Did you check in the Password Manager that the passwords were imported?

  • Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"

Details like websites remembering you (log you in automatically) are stored in a cookie.

  • Create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep such cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions

You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:

  • Click the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
  • Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
  • Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab

First, I want to say thank you for not only replying but also for being exceptionally clear in your answer. Clarity and specificity is a dying art, it seems. :-)

It seems the passwords have not been imported.

Also, after choosing:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"

whenever I navigate back to that menu, the option displayed is always "Remember history" and not "Use custom settings for history" and I don't know if this is just the default display or if the setting is being reverted.

I did follow all of the steps and attempt to import the bookmarks and personal data again, but with no success.

Also, some weird conflict seems to have been created and trying to navigate to gmail.com resulted in this warning:

"Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies."

until I deleted all of the cookies.

If you see "(Never) Remember History" then that means that all history and cookie settings are set to the default value (i.e. cookies are enabled and kept until they expire). The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
